The Challenge
The Energex Training Facility at Rocklea required a comprehensive staged redevelopment to bring all internal training spaces up to contemporary operational and safety standards. As a government and public building supporting hands-on trades education, the facility demanded mechanical services solutions that could accommodate the demands of active training environments, including workshop spaces, training rooms, and generator areas. The scope of work presented a number of key challenges:
- Delivering complete air conditioning installation across all internal spaces within a live, staged construction programme managed by builder Bryant Building Contractors.
- Designing and installing ventilation and extraction systems suited to training room environments where air quality and compliance are critical.
- Engineering specialist ducting solutions for a generator enclosure, requiring close coordination between mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Supplying and installing all mechanical electrical works, including two Mechanical Services Switch Boards (MSSB), to a government facility standard.
- Maintaining strict adherence to builder specifications, project timelines, and quality standards throughout all phases of the upgrade works.
Our Approach
Chill Merchants was engaged as the mechanical services contractor for the full scope of HVAC and mechanical electrical works at the Energex Training Facility, working in close collaboration with builder Bryant Building Contractors throughout the staged redevelopment. The approach centred on structured delivery, technical precision, and clear communication at every stage.
Air Conditioning Installation: Chill Merchants coordinated and completed the supply and installation of ducted air conditioning systems across all internal spaces included in the staged redevelopment programme, ensuring comfort and compliance across every zone of the facility.
Ventilation and Extraction Systems: Purpose-designed ventilation and extraction systems were installed in all training rooms, meeting the requirements of an active education and trades environment. Systems were engineered to manage air quality, airflow, and safety in accordance with applicable Australian Standards.
Generator Enclosure Ducting: Specialist ducting solutions were designed and installed for the generator enclosure, a technically demanding component of the project requiring careful integration with existing building infrastructure.
Mechanical Electrical Works: All mechanical electrical works were completed by Chill Merchants, including the full supply and installation of two Mechanical Services Switch Boards (MSSB), delivered to government building standards and in line with builder specifications.
